Default Tracker 101: intro to trailer wiring

If you buy a trailer hitch for your Tracker, buy the wiring adapter at he same time. You need the
adapter to convert the European tail lights to American trailer lights.

The trailer hitch lines up with the four existing threaded bolts holes in the frame.

The Tracker's trailer wiring harness connecter is under the left rear panel.

The connector (C402) is tucked up under the harness.

It has six pins.

The turn signal adapter does not use pin 3 of the Tracker's trailer wiring connector.

The Tracker's connector plugs directly into the wiring adapter.

Feed the other end of the wiring adapter out the jack access door.

There's enough wire to reach the trailer.

The rear door holds it in place.

When I'm not towing a trailer I store the adapter inside the jack compartment.

I bought my 2002Tracker with an existing hitch but did not intend on using it. The hitch was rusted but so is the underside of the vehicle. A year ago, I detected a bump noise at the rear when going over a rough spot in the road. In checking this out, the trailer hitch was found fractured in two along the passenger side--see picture--totally rusted out. I planned on taking the hitch off knowing the bolts were likely frozen tight--they are. My 230 Ft/Lb Impact Driver was useless. Since I tied up the affected side tight using ties, I have been comfortable with it a year later. I did recently buy a 500 Ft/Lb stubby air impact driver, but it too, could not loosen the bolts. Just this am I sprayed BLASTER inside the a convenient frame hole opening near the bolts and hope the bolts will soak up the juice. I see the hitch is still available for purchase but I have never used it and figure the cost is not justified. A 2002 vehicle is also a poor candidate. Still thinking...
I used the new impact driver to remove an Anode Rod from a water heater and the driver popped that right out!

This is the passenger side = view from outside. The crack runs from 10 to 4 O Clock--left to right

I was concerned about removing my trailer hitch bolts in the future so I applied anti-seize compound before I installed them.
