Upper timing chain tensioner - 1999 Tracker 2L DOHC
A loud clicking noise starts when the engine warms up. Just replaced the head gasket. Put 10w-30w oil in it. Can I fix this by switching to a different weight oil ?
no it did not... ?? ... only drove it a short distance to get it home. I don't yet want to replace the tensioner...yet..... I'm going to test the oil pressure anyways (top end is getting lots of oil) The engine sound really good and quiet until it warms up to good operating temp, .then the clicking starts
I am not an engine guy in general and I'm not familiar with the 2.0 liter specifically (I have the 2.5 liter). Since the Tracker is a rebranded Suzuki Grand Vitara I would post your question on their forum. They have some knowledgeable people over there.
OR you could just turn up the radio. (kidding…)
Covering up an issue with heavier oil is not fixing the issue.
You’re just going to have to do a little more troubleshooting. I doubt 10W-40 oil would do major damage if you ran it for 300-500 miles…just to see.
Good luck.
