Default 08 trailblazwe liftgate

ok my neighbor has a stuck liftgate. i took the linkages off and i can work the lever that the lift handle works but the gate is stuck closed. i can't open it to just remove the latch unit. so there must be a way to do this. i see the solenoid trying to work some levers down under the steel levers but they must not be working it enough to release.

so a bit more info is he told me the gate was rattling so he tightened the bumpers to stop it, he said the gate worked good after that adjustment, but i told him to loosen those to see if by chance the bumpers are causing the latch to be so tight is is just stuck.

so if this is not the real issue what else can i try to get the gate open. if the latch is just to rusted to work what can i do to get it to release? it looks like down inside there are 3 real small either allen or torx screws, if those are screws can i remove them and get that metal lever off and then be able to work some releasing mechanism inside to get the latch to release.

or do i just take a chisel to it and bust it open to get to the release? thanks

Check the console switch to make sure it's not in the off position.

thanks i got it i had to push on the release that is under the actual lever as i pushed on the door and it released. also he had the door stops so tight i think it was binding. plus the locking lever was rusted to the point it did not move. so i took out the complete unit after i got it to release and oiled all the hinge points and got the lock to move free and put it in and so far he said it is working. thanks

if you can get in the back there is an access plug at the bottom of the gate. Mine would not open after someone damaged the electric button for the glass. I accessed it at the bottom and it can not only be unlocked there but opened there as well. I replaced the whole assembly and now have no issues.
