I'm trying to pin down a whining noise that (I'm told) is fairly standard with these Trailblazers. Maybe alternator, pulley? It would help me to get an illustrated or notated drawing of the engine showing where everything is located.

Any thoughts?

start the engine and spray the belt with water or brake cleaner from a spray bottle...if the noise changes...its the belt
if its a growl noise, use a mechanics stethoscope and listen to each pulley to find where the noise is the loudest. when you have it isolated, remove the belt and spin all the pulleys by hand...note which ones are loud, rough feel when turned and for play.
