Default Fan Clutch Replacement

Okay for those of you who need to change your fan clutch, if your engine sounds like a jet engine, Its time to change your fan cluth.

I just changed my fan clutch and it was easier than I would of expected. The dealership said it was going to cost me $900. They said it would be $500. for parts and $400 for labor. I purchased the fan clutch for $200. at Napa auto supply. The other places like O riley's, Pep Boys, Auto Zone were all the same price.

One thing I didnt do was take a u tube vidieo. At O'Rileys they loan you the fan cluth tools for a $75 deposit but the only thing I used out of it was the 36 mm open end wrench to unscrew the nut on the fan cluth.

I actually sprayed it with WD 40 and put the open end wrench on there and hit it , turned it again and hit it again, turned it again and hit it again and the nut just broke loose. Turn it counter clockwise.

Instructions : disconnect battery cable, un screww the bolts on top to loosen the radiator shrowd, loose the two metal lines attache to the shrowd on the passenger side, diconnect the fan cluth wiring plug on the drivers side, Use a 13mm open end wrench to loosen the fan blade. Four bolts. Finish un screwing the fan clutch counter clockwise and pull it out. (Ill admit that was the toughest part out of the whole job) To install go at it in reverse order.

I sure am glad I was able to save myself $800. My trail blazer is an 03 and from what I found out they are pretty much the same from 02 to 05 and they might be the same on earlier years and latter years.

I hope this helps you out. Took my time did it in an hour and a half.

Thank you for quoting seadoo's post, Ron, but did you have a question or comment of your own? If so it seems to have been 'misplaced'.
