Need Advise on Upgrading '05 TB Roof Rack
Hi All-
I've done some searching here but don't find much in answer to my questions. Problem:The cross bars on my factory mounted roof rack have collapsed ('05 TB) and I need to replace them with a stronger cross bar that could be attached to the existing stock mounted track with the inner rails.
From what I see Yakima seems to be the only company which sells items to fit stock mounted rails on the roof. They claim to fit factory rails universally but I could hardly expect that to be true. Why then does the Railrider 3 claim to be made for Dodge Durango's? I don't see anywhere that these railriders list which vehicles they actually fit (except for the railrider 3).
All I can find that will work in this rail system is by Yakima and the price seems outrageous to me. Everything has to be bought separately and although they seem to have lots of different systems, the TB gets only the newest and most expensive components made, no other options available on there site.
For example; my '05 TB lists out as this:48'roundbar $89.00, skyline towers $295.00, Landing Pads x2 @ $96.00, end caps $10.00, roundbar SL adapters $30.00 which comes to ~ $520.00. Really........? And this does not include the locking mechanism!
Anyone, know of something practical that's available out there? and I thought replacement GM crossbars were out of line at $200.00 apiece!
I have a Thule Atlantis 1800 (34" x 85") cargo box & I can't believe I over weighted it but the flimsy cross bars bent to the point the front of box rested on the roof.
Any help on directing me to a stronger cross bar to replace the stock would be greatly appreciated.
