Default Trailblazer Trailer Electrical Connector

I think I have an easy question but I haven't found an answer...

- I have a factory 7 pin connector on the back of my trailblazer - and my buddy has a 4 pin round or 4 pin blade connector on his trailer.

Do I have to buy a fancy T-connector for 30$ or can I go to discount auto and buy a 7 pin to 4 pin connector for 8$? Is there any difference at all? Why would Chevy put some wierd chevy-only connector on the back instead of a standard plug?

here are 3 answers.....
I use the $7 adapter, bought it at Advance Auto. I've seen them at WalMart too.
I use a similar adapter, but mine was bought at Princess Auto in Barrie. I have never had a problem with using it! And I only paid $5 for mine. The 7-pin connector on the GM's is the standard for anything trailers with brakes, accessory power, and/or back up lights. The 4 pin is a basic connector for lightweight & cheap[er] trailers
