Whistling/Sucking Noise
I posted this is the wrong place and just reposting where it should be.
Hello, I am new to this forum. I have been the owner of a Saturn for many years ( I love GM). I am looking to upgrade to a larger vehicle for my family. I have currently found a really good deal on a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer EXT LS. The car is in absolutely beautiful shape.
Before I make this purchase I have one concern. When I test drove it (twice so far) I heard a light whistling/sucking noise coming from the engine compartment upon light acceleration. It seems to go away as you actually start to accelerate the vehicle. Basically my question is two fold, first what do think this could be? Secondly, do you think I should steer clear of this purchase because of this one problem?
I really appreciate all of your advice and help in advance.
Thanks!

I have researched 2004 Trailblazer vehicles and was unable to find any known whistling/sucking noise issues within my resources.
If you are really concerned, you may want to have the vehicle inspected before purchase. Also, ask for a vehicle history report (i.e. CarFax), so you can get a background of the vehicle.
If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact me.

Louis,
Thanks for your reply. I have done a lot of research and have come up with only a few ideas. I read that it could be a crack in one of the intake hoses. I also read it could possibly be a throttle bottle spacer? Does any of that sound like it could be the case? Being a car guy in general does this sort of problem sound like it could be a major issue?
I know I sound paranoid but I want to be sure I am making a solid investment.
Thanks for your help.

Did you look under the hood? You could have someone just rev the engine while you try to locate the noise. Maybe the air intake plumbing has been screwed around with. If that's not it and it only happens while moving, you may be looking at a mechanical problem that's going to bite you.
We looked under the hood and I did not not seem to hear the noise while revving the engine in park. It sounds good while sitting idle as well. The check engine light came on after I drove it and I had them check it. It happened to be the converter which is being replaced as part of the deal if I make that decision. I asked the dealer and he said he would have them look but it may be a noise they just cannot pinpoint (which I think is bull).
You mentioned it could be a mechanical problem that could come back to bite me. What would be the worst case scenario? I did a carfax on it and everything checks out clean.
Thanks for all of your help.

I did find some information that closely matches what I am talking about. However, I could not find a fix or remedy out there for it.
TSB #3086
NHTSA ID #10009512
This says it is for the Silverado but I am imagining they would have close to the same things.
Thanks again for your help.

The bulletin #PIP3086A says a "whistle noise from the throttle body area during light acceleration" is normal for 03-05 Chevrolet Trail Blazer EXT LS1, LT1 among others. The noise wasn't there or you couldn't hear it for the background? If it truly happened only when moving, there could be something in the drivetrain, e.g., TSB #03-04-19-002B.
Thanks again for your response. I am going to test drive it again today or tomorrow. So your saying it could be normal? What's the best way to test and see if it is the drive train? I told him to have their mechanics inspect it or no deal. I will post what they say and do some more investigating when I get a hold of it.
again thanks for all of your help.
