Both are possibilities. It is difficult to say without a physical inspection. I don't think you are being paranoid at all. You want to make sure that you are getting your money's worth; there is nothing wrong with that.

I encourage you to have the vehicle inspected to be sure. You may also want to consider purchasing an extended warranty if it is available.
