Default Backup cam and dvd player not working

I'm not sure if this is a "traverse problem" or just my car but I haven't found anything anywhere else so I was hoping someone might have a genreal idea before I take it in and fork out a ton of money for a simple fix!
We have a 2011 traverse ltz. Bought it used. It has headrest mounted DVD players. Not sure if they came with the car or if they were aftermarket. Each can play it's own movie or they can watch the same. Worked great when we got it for the first few weeks. Our back up camera was the same in that it worked great the first few weeks. The display is in the rear view mirror. After a few weeks the dvd player would start skipping the movie backwards and forwards. It is usually hard to stop when it starts happening. Generally have to let it stop on its own. The backup camera will just go black or flicker and not have a good picture.
So after a while we gave up on the dvd player and in the process had to get a new battery. After that, both the dvd player and rear camera began working again! Gave it a good use for a few days and the dvd player started skipping again so we stopped using it. The rear camera was great from then for the past 4 months. I tried the dvd player on a whim last week because we had a long trek around town and it worked great. A few days later now and the dvd player is skipping and my rear camera has gone black!
I feel like all of this is connected. When we use the dvd player a lot, the rear camera usually goes out. When we werent using the dvd players the camera worked just fine. Now that we have been using the dvd, the camera is gone. Im not gonna use the dvd for a while and see how long it takes for the camera to kick back in (if it does).
I feel like all of this is connected, i just don't know anything about cars and how it could be connected. Our friend said maybe it's something with the battery since that's when they started working again and maybe they are drawing too much power or something along those lines. The place everyone says we should take it too is so expensive and I'm HOPING we might be able to get a few things to try ourselves before we get charged $95 an hour just for them to look at it when it's just a loose wire or a connection we need to check. Sorry for such a long post...but momma needs her back up camera (and I'm sure the kids would like their dvd players back lol!!)
