I purchased a 2018 Traverse brand new in December. I have since put just under 1,400 miles on it. The amount of rust and corrosion on the exhaust pipes is alarming. The weld looks like it was done by a 6th grader and there are gaps and holes throughout. Now, I know that rust is going to happen. I fully expected to deal with this in about 2 years....but I've had the vehicle for 4 months and have only 1,400 miles on it. For additional info, I live in Las Vegas. It's not like I'm driving around on salted roads or even dealing with the extreme heat here yet. It's been fairly mild outside and not much bad weather to speak of. The part that worries me is that it looks as though the pipes/welding was repaired after installed. This is a brand new vehicle! So, I am taking it in on Monday, but since I don't want to be raked over the rails by a dealership (again), I wanted to get opinions on if this is normal for Chevy or not. My GMC never had anything like this and it was almost 8 years old.

 

the welds are bad looking; but the rust is normal. You could walk under any brand on a new unsold vehicle and the welds will have surface corrosion. The surface rust doesn't effect the life at all....I've never seen one break on anything built in the 2006 or newer years. Usually, the welds look professional, like they we done by a machine...yours are a mess.
