Default Cruise Control

I have a strange issue with my 05 Uplander.....
A couple of years ago, my ABS motor kept running on even when the car was shut off. I had no idea about these things at the time so took it to my mechanic. He said the motor and control module would be quite expensive, so suggested a used one from a wrecking yard. Thats what we did. After that, the cruise control wouldnt work anymore. It would engage sometimes, but would kick off almost immediately. The mechanic felt it must be the on off lever behind the steering wheel. I didnt want to mess with that, so just left it.

Today, I have been having brake problems, feels like a warped rotor.....I wondered if possibly the ABS might be doing this, so I pulled the ABS fuse and went for a test drive.....still shook, so must be a rotor. While out, I tried the cruise control and it works with the ABS disabled. So, it has to be related to that ABS control box somehow I figure.....but how?

Any ideas on this?
thanks

Hangover Ontario...lol...small world...I'm from Tiverton. Welcome.

This info may help:

The powertrain control module (PCM) inhibits the cruise control operation when any of the following conditions exist:

  • A cruise control system DTC has been set.
  • The vehicle speed is less than 40.2 km/h (25 mph).
  • The vehicle speed is too high.
  • The vehicle is in PARK, REVERSE, NEUTRAL, or 1st gear.
  • The engine RPM is too low.
  • The engine RPM is too high.
  • The system voltage is not between 9–16 volts.
  • The antilock brake system/traction control system (TCS) is active for more than 2 seconds.

I would put the abs fuse back in, clear the ebcm dtc and drive the vehicle and see what resets in the ebcm. Post those codes here.

I have a cheapo scanner, doesnt read ABS codes...it doesnt show any regular engine codes. I will try and get my mechanic friend to throw his scanner on it......might take a while until I get over there

The fuse is back in....with it out, the brake light, ABS light and a warning on the display about service ABS system.....I dont want to freak out the wife when she drives it....lol...its her car
thanks
