In my case the sound coming from steering column while turning the wheels is more like rubber-metal contact sound. Nothing like sounds related with steering shaft mechanical issues. It's not clicking but kind of silent whining. It's not coming from the power steering pump either. This was first thing to check. Also, comes and goes depending on weather and temperature. I have no time to study the problem right now but I'm pretty sure it can be eliminated with lubricating in a specific spot.
