Default Remote start

I have a remote start that came with my 2005 uplander LS conversion van, "handicapped equipped by braun." I've always wondered if when I start the vehicle with the key fob is it charging the battery while it's running, or if the key needs to be in the ignition and in the start position?

Yep, if the alternator is charging when the engine is running, no difference.

Thank you. I don't go out much when it's cold but think it's a good idea to start it up once in awhile and let it charge. I know the best way is a good long run, but when it's cold out I tend to hibernate!
