Default Gabriel Rear Shock Absorbers

Hi,

I am doing a lot of work on my 98 venture recently one of the things is changing rear shock absorbers as old one where leaking quite a bit.

So I bought Gabriel 49230 shock absorbers from APW (will not buy stuff from them anymore, but that's different discussion).

Initially one of the shock were not extending so had to put air in it and it extended just fine. Now the middle part seems to be moving really freely on it - not sure if that is something that should be like that or not?

I know that air line is not attached here, but other shock absorber doesn't appear to behave like that - middle part doesn't appear to move by itself.

Is that normal - yes/no? Will it fix itself when airline is attached or is the shock absorber faulty?

Thank you!

Got the answer from Gabriel specialists

This is normal, when the lines are not hooked up to apply air pressure. When you hook up the lines and apply the air pressure the air shocks will expand to the proper position.
Will have to figure out how to hook up new lines up as the original ones don't quite fit here.

Quick update here - it all works fine when pressure is applied. But too connect these guys to air lines you have to cut off old connectors on the air lines and install the new ones - don't need to change air lines, just ends.

Cheers!
