Radio Install need some knowlege!

Hey guys. So I am working on a 2004 chevy venture non ONSTAR. I have the GM radio kit and harness, but I read somewhere that these vans will not deploy airbags if I change the radio. Is this true?

I can't see how the two would be connected, even if you had radio controls on your steering wheel. I'm planning on changing mine...
