Replacing Evaporator? Anyone ever removed the dash?
I have a 99 Montana and my a/c charge leaks out within a couple weeks and there is a dye trail running down the lower firewall by the condensation tube. I suspect the evaporator has a leak. Has anyone ever removed the dash to get to the heater box? Just looking for any hints or quicker ways.
As much as i have read into this manual about the evaporator.... all it says is use the most expensive sprays to eliminate odors in the evap...... and it shows a pic of someone spraying it from inside the glove box under the filters, i know that doesnt help you in this case...... If i were you i would just start taking apart what you can see..... it seems as though the evap and heater core are in diff places though.......and by that i mean the evap coil is above the heater core. But if you want me to scan the pages so you can see them you will have to pm me.
I hate to sound like such a "Beginner" but I am trying to figure out how to replace the Evaporator coil in a '99 Silverado... I've looked in the books, is it part of the core? I've worked on almost every part of this truck. (sucessfully, might i add) Am I reaching outside of my "element?"
