To the best of my knowledge, ALL "Venture" vans were sold with a 3.4L engine and the 4T65E automatic transmission. Front wheel drive transverse mounted manuAl transmission...that's going to take a bit of research.
Have you tried changing the fluid and filter?
NOTE: Haven't read anything different about AWD transmissions, could just be a transfer case thing.

Check the Opel Sintra specs

Don't know if you are still looking into this, but the US made export/Euro spec cars came with 5 speed manual transmission. I own a manual UK version, so can always take a look at it if it helps. They were badged Opel Sintras if you want to Google that.
