So this thing melted and I need to order another one...problem is I dont know what it is lol. Can anyone help me?

Coolant themorstat. very inexpensive item. don't drive without it.

The gooey stuff is wax and when it melts it opens a valve. Kinda cool how it works.

I dont think it's the thermostat. It's got a vacuum line running to it. Pretty sure it has something to do with the exhaust.

The vacuum could be for opening the valve to your heater.
Is that not a big fat radiator hose coming out on the right hand side?

If it's connected to the exhaust system, then it could be an EGR valve.
