Whine (not squeal) in serpentine belt area
'02 Silhouette, 3.4, 160K We're having some intermittent warning light issues, and the van seems to almost not turn over, but does (so far). The battery is about 3 yrs old - so I realize it *could* be that (but shouldn't : )...but I just noticed today a loud whine that increases with RPMS. It is NOT a belt squeal...more like a weed-whacker buzz. It "sounds" like it's coming from the top pulley which looks like the power steering pump to me (I'm no expert, but the fluid fills there, so...) but vibrations travel so...given the electrical symptoms....here's a link to the video. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B49...it?usp=sharing
SHould I be looking at the alternator?
Thanks

It sounds like the power steering pump to me, but I'd take the serp. belt off and wiggle all the pulleys, check for play, then spin 'em and listen for any slight, odd noises.
