Resetting the Check Engine Oil Light with CID

On newer Silverado 1500s, you can reset the check engine oil light using the buttons on your steering wheel. Turn the ignition on without starting the truck. Use the up, down, left and right arrow buttons to navigate the menus on the display on your instrument cluster. Find the info menu for engine oil life. It will probably give you a message to change the oil. Press and hold the check button on your steering wheel for several seconds. It should give you a confirmation that the check engine oil display has been reset. Turn off the ignition then start the truck.

If it worked, then the light should come on for a second to do a check then shut off.
