Before We Ring in the New Year, Let’s Take One Last Look Back at Great Chevy Moments from 2016

The end of 2016 has arrived, and we’re moving into 2017 as quickly as our Chevrolets will carry us. Before we get too excited about the prospects that new year will bring, it is worth taking a look back. However, 2016 was a year that likely won’t be remembered as a great one. But if nothing else, it was certainly memorable. Before you watch the ball drop, let’s countdown our five favorite Chevy moments from the last 365 days! May there be more great stuff like this in the year that lies ahead.

5. The Turbo Tahoe ‘Paint Truck’

Chevy

Among the pantheon of famous sleepers that surfaced in 2016, “The Paint Truck” has got to rate up there with the likes of “Farm Truck.” An otherwise unassuming two-door Chevy Tahoe, the paint truck looks like any other suburban small-business owner’s personal ride. However, there is so much more beneath the surface. This is a clean and classy build that deserves as much attention as it doesn’t get. With a 4L80E engine and a massive turbo pumping 16 psi, this thing really hauls! Read more here!

4. Introduction of the Colorado ZR2

Chevy

Easily the most exciting new product Chevrolet has introduced this year, the ZR2 off-road-ready Colorado looks to be a really awesome truck right from the factory. A welterweight taking the fight directly to Ford’s heavy-hitter Raptor, this off-road Chevy features trick suspension, beefed up componentry, locking differentials, an optional diesel engine and thick aluminum skid plates. Consequently, this truck certainly looks like it would be a lot of fun for hitting the wide open trails in the nearest desert. Read more here!

3. Rumors of a New “Blazer”

Chevy

The new Chevy Colorado is an awesome truck. As a result, it deserves all of the credit that it’s getting in the industry. It’s an appropriate size for a truck, and is quite capable of doing all the work you ask of it. Some, however, would prefer that the Colorado have an SUV counterpart. With the previous generation Colorado, we at least had the option of a Hummer H3 to fill the truck-based SUV void in GM’s lineup. Is it possible that Chevy will build an SUV from the Colorado platform? And with the excellent ZR2 option for the Colorado, could that be carried over to this sister truck? Chevy fans want a Wrangler competitor! Read more here!

2. Duramax Diesels in Military Vehicles

Chevy

The military’s trusty but dated High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV or “Humvee”) from AM General is being phased out of combat. It will be replaced by this “Joint Light Tactical Vehicle.” While this new vehicle doesn’t have an interesting nickname, it does feature a GM Duramax Diesel engine. Using a 6.6 liter Duramax V8 engine, which makes use of 397 horsepower and 765 lb-ft of torque in civilian trim, this big bruiser should be able to get out of its own way, too! Read more here!

1. ICON Reformer Redefines Caprice Cool

Chevy Caprice - 1000

When master auto restorer Jonathan Ward and his merry band of misfits get their hands on a Chevrolet, the end result is always fantastic. This Caprice Classic has been wildly transformed into a custom interstate cruiser for a customer. With a completely revamped interior featuring gorgeous materials and extra comfort, as well as a four-hundred-thirty horsepower GM E-ROD crate engine, the car can eat up highway miles while looking super inconspicuous. All things considered, this is, by far, our favorite Chevy of the year. What a wild build. Read more here!
