the obd2 connector is the only diagnostic connector on the vehicle, you may try an independant shop too, they should be able to retrieve bcm codes, i know i can with our scanner, the service engine soon light is the check engine light, and there are too many things to list that can turn it on

The "SERVICE VEHICLE SOON" light and the "CHECK ENGINE" light are two different lights
