Default LT1 in a 1997 K1500 SBSS

OK here we go again, for those of you that don't know the history of this truck. I purchased it with a blown Vortec, I installed a TPI 327, had several drivability issues with the final being a failed water pump causing a total meltdown of a $2300 motor. Today I purchased a 1996 LT1 with 60k miles, and yes the motor has been setting for a few years. I purchased it from the man that removed it from the Ram Air Bird, and has had it setting in his shop since. I will be tracking my progress on this install as best as I can, discussing the possabilities of how to set it up and run it with a 12200411 ECU out of an LS series truck.

Default update

I dropped the LT1 intake off at the machine shop for modding today. the mod will enable the use a Vortec distributor in the stock LT1 intake, with the '97 LT1 crank position sensor to corectly operate the '411 ECU. I have also recieved some toys to add to the setup http://www.flickr.com/photos/tinbender59/5472291561/ over the next few weeks I am going to attempt to fabricate my own accessorie brackets, I will post pictures as I work them out.

checked with the machine shop today, looking good, he gestimated around $150 ??? I found a fella on Ebay charging $250, for a pretty sad looking "Patch" job. Well??? I was going to post the link, but looks like he has removed the auction from EBay?? working out the front of the motor this week, I had a nice chat with a rep from one of our main aftermarket suppliers, somthing to do with street and ???? anyway he let it slip that a frost plug will fit in to the "boss" where the Opti goes. After much calling and research, a "dorman" #555-112 2.885 inch frost plug is suposed to fit in there. also will be attempting to use the Vette accessorie mounting system, not prefered but quicker and simpler. Pulled a compression test, 160lb to 210lb isn't great but not real bad. also starting the clean up and resealing process, that is about it for now.

Default new idea

Just had an epiphany, "new idea" modify the Opti to provide the signals for the '411 ECU, actually make it a magnetic instead of an Opti!! more as it takes shape

3/16/2011 nice idea but no way to adjust the timming, RATS!!!!!
