There was a recall on the stepper motors in the dash that operate the gauges. The recall was for most vehicles. I had a Trailblazer that was not on the recall list and replaced them myself. Not too bad if you can solder.

how do i find out if im on the recall list? i can imagine that having bigger tires effects the speedometer, but is it the steeper motor that is messing around with the rpms? i have 265/75/16 on it now, stock they are 245's

Bigger tires would change what the speedometer displays as your speed. They would not make the speedometer or tach erratic.
