Default Installing OEM 3rd Row DVD

In 2008/09 GM offerred 3rd row stand alone OEM Panasonic drop down DVD screen for the people in the 3rd row to watch instead of watching the 2nd row DVD.

I have a 2007 Suburban with OEM Nav Radio/DVD with 2nd row OEM DVD and was hoping someone has added a 3rd row DVD that can help me with parts and installation instructions

Is there an extension wiring hardness to extend video signal from 2nd row DVD to 3rd row DVD?

You can buy the Panasonic OEM DVD drop down screen on Ebay for $100

Should be able to get the connector from the dealer and wire it to the 2nd row dvd. One thing that you'll have not do is hook up the audio to the 3rd row. If you do, the 2 infared signals will cancel each other out and the 3rd row passengers will not get audio through there headphones

The parts guy at my dealership could find nothing about a separate extending harness, he feels the harness is one piece that extends to the 3rd row DVD when the truck is build and theres no add on.

Any idea how one would confirm this?

Also how do you figure out which of the wires in the harness are for IR? I notice the 3rd row OEM Panasonic DVD is different in that it has no IR lights on it so maybe Panasonic supplied two versions of their flip down OEM DVD screen to GM.

There is no official add-on unit. But it can be done by simply adding the components. Upon further investigation of your vehicle, the
rear screen would have to be wired directly into the rear of the radio.
And yes you are right, there are 2 different screens...one with and one without IR tansmitters

To accomplish this, you'll need a spool of sheilded speaker lead to go from the rear of the vehicle to the radio. (example http://www.fadfusion.com/selection.p...er=20027800083 )
You'll need 5 wires to go the same distance
You need to get 4 pins for the rear of the radio, Terminal/Tray: 15359541/4 (parts guys should know what this means)
And finally, the connector for the video, and you'll need 8 pins for the connector. Part numbers and pic below
Video Display - Rear (DNU)

Connector Part Information
  • OEM: 15490628
  • Service: 89047355
  • Description: 10-Way F Kaizen 0.64 Series (BK)
Terminal Part Information
  • Terminal/Tray: SAITS-A03T-M064/14
  • Core/Insulation Crimp: P/P
  • Release Tool/Test Probe: J-38125-215/J-35616-64B (L-BU)

Thank you for all the help, this is excellent.

I didn't realize it meant pulling a wire all the way along the headline and then pulling the stereo out. I thought I could just fish a wire from the 2nd row DVD to the 3rd row DVD.

I'm guessing the video signal wouldn't be strong enough to power both monitors right?

A video amp would be required probably.

Might be easier to do headrest monitors.

You could try running it off of the first moniter, but like you say, the signal may not be strong enough. Pulling the radio and running wires to it is not as hard as you might think it is.
Keep us posted when you decide which way you're going to go

Brewboy --- how did it turn out? Did you install the 3rd row oem display? Any pix of DIY's?

Default shawnvw, help!

Hey shawnvw, thanks for all your help! I'm doing something similar...not quite and this thread got me 75% there (I think). What I'm trying to do is make a wire harness from the front nav/dvd unit to the 2nd row dvd screen. My truck (2007 Tahoe) didn't come with either but I bought both from ebay...the nav unit is installed and working. The piece I need is the (I believe) c3 connector for the rear of the nav unit. The other parts you listed should get the rest done:

  • sheilded speaker lead

  • Connector Part Information (dvd screen)

* OEM: 15490628
* Service: 89047355
* Description: 10-Way F Kaizen 0.64 Series (BK)

  • Terminal Part Information (pins)

* Terminal/Tray: SAITS-A03T-M064/14
* Core/Insulation Crimp: P/P
* Release Tool/Test Probe: J-38125-215/J-35616-64B (L-BU)

Am I correct in this assumption? Do you know what the part number is for the c3 connector? My dvd screen DOES have the IR built in so I'm assuming I will need to run more than 5 wires. The information I have about the back of the nav unit is as follows:

I decided to go with Headrest monitors instead of the 3rd row install. The deciding factor for me was the mounting of the DVD player into the factory brackets and purchasing all the right parts. I didn't realize how many parts were involved in mounting.

For the same price I bought a high quality set of Headrest monitors with built in DVD players.

This way the kids don't fight over who gets to pick the movie, they can each pick their own and its much quieter for me!
