2019 Chevrolet Silverado LT Trail Boss Review: ‘Best Silverado Yet!’

By -

All-new Chevy Silverado is redesigned from the ground up, and the LT Trail Boss package is both innovative and impressive, says Car Pro.

The all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado features a bigger, bolder design than in past years, and with several different trims available in this year’s powerful lineup, drivers can choose the configuration that best matches their needs.

This first-drive review from Car Pro features the LT Trail Boss trim. The LT Trail Boss package includes 4-wheel drive, large tires, glossy black wheels, and a two-inch suspension lift. The newly-designed exterior features black trim, redesigned mirrors, and dual exhaust tips built into the rear bumper. Chevy also increased the size of the rear bumper’s step to accommodate bigger size work boots.

The larger size of the 2019 Chevy Silverado includes an extra three inches of backseat legroom, and a bed that is seven inches wider. Chevy made some changes to the makeup of this year’s model, using aluminium on the hood, tailgate, and both doors. So, even though this year’s Silverado is noticeably bigger, it is about 450 pounds lighter than last year’s model. And all of these attributes were noticed by Car Pro reviewer Jerry Reynolds, who says the ride and drive was very good, smooth and “less bouncy” than anticipated, with “plenty of power.”

‘I felt at home in the cabin. …The touchscreen is easy to operate. The gauges and readout is easy to see. …Although not the top of the line, the interior is nice.’

Under the hood, there are several engine options available for customers. The reviewed truck was equipped with an updated 355-horsepower 5.3-liter V8 with an automatic 8-speed transmission. Other options include a 4.3-liter 6-cylinder, 6.2-liter V8, and a 6-cylinder diesel engine, with a 4-cylinder option coming soon.

Car Pro‘s Reynolds was impressed with this model’s offerings in terms of features and functionality. The cabin is reminiscent of last year’s Silverado, with an easy-to-operate touchscreen and intuitive layout of driver controls. There is plenty of storage space available inside the cabin, with dual glove boxes and storage compartments built into and under the backseat. The backseats also flip open to provide more storage behind them.

“I felt at home in the cabin,” says Reynolds. “It’s reminiscent of the last-generation Silverado. The touchscreen is easy to operate. The gauges and driver info. readout is easy to see. …Although not the top of the line, the interior is nice. Not a lot of stitching, but enough to notice.”

The only problem Car Pro had was with the utilization of a steering column shifter, but the reviewer also noted that it did make the center console area considerably roomier.

The LT Trail Boss package offers customers a pretty nice selection of features, including push-button start, keyless entry, power sliding rear window, power seats, a heated steering wheel, Bluetooth and voice activation. The fuel economy is about average, with 15/20 mpg.

With an MSRP of $57,285, it’s not the cheapest truck on the market. But according to Car Pro, it is the “best Silverado yet.”
