Silverado Battles F-150 and Ram for Full-size Pickup Crown

Silverado Battles F-150 and Ram for Full-size Pickup Crown

By -

Despite many obvious improvements and several key advantages, the new Silverado doesn’t win this one.

In terms of historical significance, the full-size truck market perennially offers up one of the more interesting battles around. Which, of course, is a win-win for us consumers who buy them. The never-ending, heated competition only serves to make each passing generation of pickup better and better. To the point where now, more people are driving them than ever before. And now that we have a brand new Chevy Silverado and Ram hitting the market, it’s a battle worth revisiting.

Thus, this comparison test from Edmunds seeks to do just that. Obviously, we were curious to see how the new contenders stack up against the Ford F-150. And garner some impressions surrounding the new Silverado, of course. First up – interior. And the reviewers seemed to particularly like the Chevy’s giant new center console. “One of the things I like about this is that it feels very at home for a truck. It’s simple, and everything’s at arm’s reach.”

The reviewers also came away impressed with the Silverado and its innovative new bed. “I like the Chevy. The multiple tie-downs and the fact that you had that side step and the tailgate to get in and out of. I felt like that made it the easiest.” One of those features even evoked a little envy. “That power tailgate in the back. You load all your stuff in the back and you press a button and they’ve got to press it up. There’s a little bit of truck jealousy there.”

Edmunds also came away impressed with the Silverado’s diverse engine offerings. As well as the smooth shifting 8-speed automatic “It has a little bit faster shifts and I like it a little bit better on the highway. It doesn’t rev as high.”

Regardless, the new Silverado still finishes third in this comparison test. Mostly due to its “polarizing” styling, which reviewers note feels “more evolutionary than revolutionary.” We obviously disagree. But we’d like to know what you think. Let us know in the comments below how you feel about the new Silverado and this test!
