Some Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups weren’t repaired correctly before, while another new recall has been issued for the same problem.

General Motors has faced its fair share of headaches in recent years as it pertains to the company’s 10-speed automatic transmission, a gearbox that has been installed in millions of vehicles for quite a few years now. The biggest problem currently pertains to faulty control valves in those transmissions, which prompted the automaker to recall some Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups, as well as certain Camaros, Cadillac CT4, CT5, and CT6 models via an expansion. Now, even more full-size pickups are being recalled for a second time, while a variety of full-size SUVs are the subject of another, new recall as well.

First up on this list is recall number N252516560, which pertains to a total of 1,055 different 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500, 3500, GMC Sierra 2500, 3500, and 2020-2022 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 trucks that may have been repaired incorrectly under recall 24V797. In those models, the transmission control valve may fail and cause the rear wheels to lock up, which can obviously increase the risk of a crash.

As part of that previously-issued recall, dealers were instructed to install new transmission control module (TCM) software that’s designed to monitor valve performance and detect excessive wear approximately 10,000 miles before a wheel lock up condition could occur. In some of the vehicles repaired under that recall, dealers installed an incorrect version of that software, however.

The transmission control valve in some of these vehicles may be susceptible to excessive wear over time, resulting in a gradual loss of pressure within the valve that can cause harsh shifting. In rare cases, the rear wheels may experience a momentary lock up.

In addition to re-recalling these Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups, GM also issued a new recall – number N252536750 – that impacts 43,732 total 2022 Chevy Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade, and Escalade ESV SUVs equipped with the 10-speed transmission with ETRS (Electronic Transmission Range Select) for the very same problem.

In either case, dealers will rectify this problem by installing the correct (hopefully) TCM software, and will also inspect the vehicles as a precaution. Owners will begin receiving notification that their vehicles are part of the recall starting March 30, 2026, but in the meantime, they can also call GM customer service at 1-888-988-7267, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, GMC customer service at GMC 1-800-462-8782, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or visit NHTSA.com for more information.
