Watch These Chevy Silverado Pickups Beat Corvettes & Mustangs at the Drag Strip
This gang of Chevy Silverado pickups take no prisoners at the drag strip as they lay waste to a bevy of sports and muscle cars.
Today, it’s hard to imagine a world in which pickups weren’t a common sight at the drag strip, but that was certainly the case not to0 long ago. For a very long time, in fact, drag racers largely ignored pickups for obvious reasons – they’re bigger, heavier, less aerodynamic, and don’t have much weight over the rear wheels, which isn’t great for traction. However, these days, it’s easier to find a V8-powered pickup than it is a muscle or sports car – and oftentimes, cheaper. Thus, we’ve seen a plethora of fast trucks surface in recent times, and these Chevy Silverado pickups are certainly great examples of that phenomenon.
In this video from the YouTube channel Drag Racing and Car Stuff, we see a handful of Chevy Silverado pickups hit the drag strip and lay waste to some classic American V8-powered machines. The first victim is a C6 Corvette, which finds itself on the losing end to a fourth-generation Silverado. The fiberglass sports car managed to run a 12.64-second quarter-mile, but lost mightily to the full-size pickup, which jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, tripping the lights in just 11.97 seconds in what proves to be a dominant performance.
Next up, we have another Chevy Silverado lining up against a white S550 generation Ford Mustang GT, which are known for being notoriously good in a straight line – particularly when equipped with the 10-speed automatic transmission. Regardless, that reputation fails to live up to the hype in this case, even as the pony car manages to rip off an impressive 10.33-second pass. The Silverado is actually slower at 10.34 clicks, but the Mustang driver is caught sleeping at the light, which results in a victory for the Bow Tie hauler.
The action doesn’t stop there either, as we move on to another Chevy Silverado and another C6 Corvette, which the four-door pickup handles thanks to its 10.26-second pass, beating the sports car, which recorded a 10.82-second pass. Things just keep getting better and better, however, with footage of various Silverados beating up on everything from a square-body pickup to few other S550 Mustangs to a Toyota Supra, and even a Jeep Cherokee Trackhawk, proving that pickups aren’t just good at hauling and towing things.
