1955 Chevy Truck

Any 4×4 ’50s Chevy truck is more than enough to grab our attention. But this one’s got much more going for it.

We so seldom see four-wheel drive pickups from the ’50s that the mere sight of one is akin to laying eyes on a unicorn. Manufacturers didn’t build many 4x4s back then, mainly because people didn’t buy them. So when we spot a lifted, curvy fendered ride like this 1955 Chevy truck up for grabs at Mecum Auctions, it makes us rub our eyes a little. And maybe even pinch ourselves. But the drivetrain setup isn’t the only rare or interesting thing about this killer vintage pickup.

Nope, this four-wheeler Chevy truck also comes in a pretty rare cab option – the 5-window. Throw those two things together, and it’s plenty special enough. But despite this, the previous owner/builder chose to give it a little more altitude with a suspension lift. Modest wheels and some beefy off-road rubber only add to the truck’s mystique. And we’re digging it.

You won’t find anything fancy on this old Chevy truck, however. That includes the interior, where red carpet, steering column and wheel, and flat cloth bench seat help offset the sea of white. Lift the hood, and you’ll find what appears to be a mildly built small block Chevy. We can spot some headers and what appears to be an aftermarket carb underneath a chrome air filter, but that’s about it.

But this Chevy truck doesn’t need all that glitz and glamour, after all. This pickup makes enough of a statement on its own. And that’s as a rarely seen, interestingly optioned relic from the past. In this day and age of four-wheel mania, it’s also about as cool a vintage pickup as you could possibly find!
