1956 Chevy Truck Is a True Modern Work of Art With Massive Power Underhood
With a brand new chassis, drivetrain, and plenty of one-off bits, this 1956 Chevy truck is a true showstopper.
Chevy trucks from the 1960s are quite special in their own regard, serving up iconic, timeless styling that is universally loved. However, trucks have come quite a long way since then, and as such, it leaves these vintage haulers looking their age with little power on tap, not to mention comfort and convenience options. That’s precisely why restomods have become so incredibly popular, and with each passing day, we come across increasingly impressive builds of that type. The latest is this – an amazing 1956 Chevy truck that’s slated to cross the block at Mecum’s upcoming Glendale, Arizona auction.
Purchased at a garage sale way back in 1982, this 1956 Chevy truck is now a far cry from the old days, though it has retained all of the original styling that we’ve grown to know and love. Meanwhile, Scott Laitinen of SIC Chops in Cave Creek, Arizona transformed it into a multi-show winning showpiece, a polished jewel of a truck that features a 1.5-inch chopped cab, a one-off front grille, and a fully shaved body, all of which is covered in a custom mix of BASF REDefined Red paint.
Inside the cabin, this slick custom Bow Tie hauler is equipped with a modified Glide seat with a center armrest, custom door panels, a multi-fabric headliner, German-weave carpet, a modified 1956 Bel Air dash, Colorado Custom steering wheel, an Ididit steering column, chrome Lokar accessories, a Vintage Air HVAC system, one-off Dakota Digital gauges, and a Kicker IQI stereo.
Underneath, Laitinen gave this 1956 Chevy truck new life with a Roadster Shop Slammed chassis featuring laser cut rails, a power rack-and-pinion steering, Baer disc brakes, a parallel four-bar rear suspension, and coilovers to modernize the ride and handling. Riding on a set of three-piece 18×9 front and 19×12 rear Colorado Custom one-off billet wheels, this old truck needs all the help it can get in the traction department, too.
That’s because it’s powered by a Don Hardy Racing LSA V8 equipped with a Whipple supercharger and a Holley EFI system. The lovely looking Metallic Charcoal Cerakoted engine cranks out an impressive 833 horsepower, which it sends to the rear wheels via a Phoenix 4L80 automatic transmission and a Ford 9-inch rear end. The results, well, they speak for themselves, as this is a hot rodded Chevy anyone would to own. However, a build this nice figures to conjure up a lot of interest at auction, which may very well drive its price tag to a pretty high level, too.
