1985 Chevy Blazer

Even with the yellow paint job, this truck is the perfect vehicle to take to the desert or up a hill.

Nowadays, when people think of SUVs, their minds go to the grocery-getters that the soccer moms cart their kids around in. What they forget are the origins of those fancy SUVs they drive today. Older SUVs used to be powerful, tough, all-terrain vehicles that got horrible gas mileage, and we loved every bit of it. So, when we spot a great older SUV on the market, we feel like its our duty to bring it your attention.

Classic Cars has a listing for a 1985 Chevy Blazer and it’s something special. Per the listing, the truck is fully restored with the 350 V8 engine and an automatic transmission, with only 6000 miles since the rebuild. Of course this is a full 4-wheel drive truck, and the previous owner has outfitted it with 33-inch BFG tires. And if you live in a hot climate, then don’t worry, you got a factory A/C that still blows cold.

The real interesting aspect of this Blazer is how it was a restored Arizona Border Patrol vehicle. The Border Patrol needs a strong, hefty vehicle, and you can see how this truck fits the bill nicely. There’s also a pretty great bikini top to the truck, which would make this a dream truck to drive in the desert and do something dangerous and/or stupid.

Of course, there’s the elephant in the room. The Blazer is very much yellow. And not the subtle kind either. However, with an asking price of $14,500 (OBO), you can easily spring for a new paint job to make it look less like Big Bird. Altogether, this is a reasonably priced SUV that harkens back to yesteryears of badass, fun utility trucks.
