2016 Chevrolet Camaro: Now With Less Roof!
Fresh on the heels of the public unveiling of the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro coupe, the folks at General Motors have now decided to show off the next obvious version; the convertible. A redesigned convertible top lets drivers let the sunshine in, or helps them eliminate the Camaro’s pesky blind spots!
The new convertible top is power operated, and can be operated at speeds up to 30 miles-per-hour. That means if you’re caught in a rain storm, you can still raise the top while the vehicle is in motion. This is crucial because, as a convertible owner, you’re obligated to always drive with the top down.
Additionally, when the convertible top is opened and folded, it folks flat with the beltline of the car, and a new hard tonneau automatically deploys to give the car a sleek profile. The automatic tonneau distinguishes the Camaro from the Mustang.
Chevrolet also believes that the new Camaro convertible should be an all-season vehicle, so the convertible top features a multi-layer construction with both acoustic and thermal barriers.
Since the convertible uses the same construction materials as the coupe, the 2016 Camaro convertible weighs approximately 200 pounds less than the outgoing model. That weight loss mimics the loss in the coupe.
Available in both LT and SS trims, all of the Camaro’s engine options are available, including the 455 hp and 455 lb-ft V8 sourced straight from the Corvette.
The new Camaro convertible will go on sale in early 2016.
