2016 Chevrolet Colorado Trail Boss

When Chevrolet unveiled the Colorado Trail Boss back at the Cleveland Auto Show, it was a good looking truck, but it didn’t really stand out from the Z71 that it was based on. Fans could point out the black bowtie logo or different tires, but ultimately the Trail Boss was more of a bundle of options that you probably want rather than a special edition.

For 2016, the Trail Boss has been visually upgraded to look the part of an off-road machine. A new sport bar with LED lighting immediately distinguishes this truck from the regular Z71. The black bowties stay, along with a spray-in bedliner, tubular side steps, and aggressive side flares. The off-road Goodyear tires also are carried over.

The Trail Boss is available in either the extended or full crew-sized cab, and can be had in either 2-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive. Also, all engine options will be available, including the 2.8L Duratec diesel engine.

It seems, this truck with a diesel is awfully darn close to a full-on ZR-2. C’mon General Motors, you know you want to offer that truck. Just do it!

Pricing for the Trail Boss hasn’t been announced, but we expect it to be similar to the $3,320 for the current Trail Boss. As for the diesel, Chevrolet has announced they’ll be charging an additional $3,730 over the price of the V6 offering.
