2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback: Where’s the Diesel?

By -

The 2017 Cruze Hatch offers the design, engineering and technological advancements of the 2016 Cruze sedan in a functional, sporty package with added cargo space.

Volkswagen really screwed up perception of diesel vehicles in the United States with their cheating on car emissions with diesel engines. But that doesn’t mean the other automakers are making bad products. One diesel car that isn’t often talked about is the Chevrolet Cruze. It’s clean. It’s fuel efficient. It’s affordable.

Chevy just pulled the covers back on the hatchback version of the Cruze for the 2017 model year. While the car should’ve had a hatchback option from the beginning, a quick look at the details about the engine notes something missing;

There’s no diesel.

Yes, it’s a bit of a journalist cliche that we all want diesel hatchbacks, but there’s a reason why we love them so much. They are usually much more practical than a sedan, with storage space for bigger things. Plus, diesel engines typically get killer mileage on the highway. Lastly, they make lots of torque, which makes the car fun to drive around town.

We’re fans of the orange color. We’re fans of the look of the new Cruze. Now, GM, just give us the diesel!
