Back in Black: ’69 Chevy C10 is a Hot Rodded Sleeper
Joining the Dark Side never looked like so much fun! Black-on-black, big block-powered 1969 Chevy C10 is a force to be reckoned with.
Sleepers are, by definition, any vehicle that packs a lot of speed in a package that is completely unassuming. And while a 1969 Chevy C10 is a beautiful example of a classic truck, it isn’t one you would expect to lose a drag race to. Especially not one that’s painted black with stock Rally style wheels. But ignore the “427” badge on the front fender, and you might wind up looking at nothing but a tailgate.
We caught this black on black ’69 C10 in the Hemmings classifieds, where it’s being advertised before heading to the 2017 Carlisle Spring Auction, which takes place on April 20 through the 22. And it’s certainly worth a look, because we can’t imagine anything being more fun than this hot rod pickup.
The “fun” comes from a 427 big block with an aluminum intake manifold and Holley carb. Shifts are handled by a beefy TH400 automatic transmission. The truck has been lowered a little bit so it sits on top of the classic rolling stock. Otherwise, it’s pretty much stock on the outside and inside. There’s certainly nothing that raises any sort of alarm here. And that’s exactly what a sleeper is all about.
