‘Big Green’ Dominates Vintage Truck Drag Race (Video)
Ford and Dodge don’t stand a chance against the hulking Chevy K10.
Just last week we were treated to a teaser video previewing the vintage truck drag race throwdown of our dreams. Popular YouTube channel The Fast Lane Truck had just acquired a 1974 Ford F-250 and already owned a 1985 Chevy K10 pickup. Combine that with the 1994 Dodge Ram 1500 owned by their good pal Mr. Truck, and the premise was just too good to ignore.
On the surface, it would appear that the Chevy, dubbed “Big Green,” is quite the ringer in this event, the first of several to come. Mostly because it’s packing a brand new, 405 hp ZZ6 350 crate engine. The big Ford has to make due with a 360 (or 390?) that has a worn out camshaft. And the Dodge, though much newer, has a little 318 under the hood.
The Dodge does have a newly rebuilt automatic transmission, which is light years better than the Chevy and Ford’s granny gear-equipped manuals. But in the end, that doesn’t make a lick of difference. After watching the old Ford hilariously spank the newer Dodge, it was time for Big Green to eat. And eat it does. The 4.10 geared Ford leaps off the line first, but it’s all Chevy after the first 60 feet.
TFLT admits that they’ve got nearly $15k in the Chevy, which is considerably more than what’s invested in either the Ford or Dodge. But this is an exercise in fun, after all. And all that matters is the end result, because nobody’s comparing receipts at the drag strip. So we’ll just kick back and enjoy this victory, and eagerly anticipate the coming off-road test!
