Cadillac’s Escalade V Is The Ultimate Full Size SUV Family Rocket
Cadillac Escalade V is completely unnecessary, and that’s why it’s totally perfect. Perfect at smashing the competition.
Fast SUV’s are nothing new. Fast full-size SUV’s are a bit of a newer trend. Dodge has the Hellcat Durango, AMG has the GL63, BMW has the XB7 Alpina. These cars are more niche than the SUV copes that were all the craze just a few years ago. Yet here they are thundering down the road. Cadillac wanted in on that game, and so here we have the Escalade V.
It’s similar in concept to the competition, yet in other ways, not at all. YouTube channel Straight Pipes has tested this one, and found that Cadillac made the Escalade V very self aware. It is not trying to be a corner-carving beast. It doesn’t even have grippy sport tires. So no, there is no Nurburgring lap time for the Escalade V. And probably for good reason.
Instead of cornering speed, the V knows it’s a big SUV and the main party trick will be the engine, not the suspension. So you’ll get a 6.2 liter supercharged V8. Power comes in at 682 horsepower, and 653 lb/ft of torque. Thrust will get you to 60 miles per hour in 4.2 seconds, which is astonishing for such a large and heavy vehicle. And another astonishing thing is the sound.
You actually can’t make the Escalade V quiet. And if you lift off the throttle in a certain rev range, you get incredibly loud pops and bangs and crackles from the exhaust. Host Jacob says, “I feel like if I had to start this in my garage, my house would shake… which is cool though, I love it!”
In reality, the Escalade V is quintessentially American. It’s not going around any corners, its rough around the edges and it drinks too much. It’s like your favorite pal that comes over to your barbecue, has your burgers and your beer, but is such a laugh and a good time that you ignore the quirks and promptly invite him over the next day. What a perfect vehicle.
