Check Out the Cool Garages these Chevy Fans Have Made

Newsday spotlights Chevy fans in New York who put in the effort to give their rides a happy place to call home.

Owning a Chevy is definitely a cause for celebration in its own right. You have one of the greatest rides around, after all, whether it’s a Silverado, a Camaro, or a Corvette. For most owners, though, their love of the Bow Tie doesn’t extend too far into their garages. There may be some ‘Corvette Parking Only’ signs here or some Chevy bumper stickers there, but for the most part, the garages are a utilitarian affair.

Some owners, however, go the extra mile to make their garages fit their Chevys. New York regional newspaper Newsday recently took a look at a couple of such garages within Long Island, each a unique take on what makes a happy home for their rides after a long day on the road.

Bill DeBlasio Chevy Garage

“This garage means a lot to me,” said Huntington Station resident Bill DeBlasio. “I’ve always been into cars since I was a child. From the time I was three years old, my parents said I could name every car on the road. It’s always been a fascination of mine.”

DeBlasio’s home once had a one-car garage, but in 2005, he added three more slots to hold his fleet of Chevys, which current includes a 1995 Impala SS he uses for racing, and his 1969 Camaro SS convertible that he’s had since high school. A decade later, he turned the four-car garage into his ‘Garage Mahal,’ with removable walls of license plates from all over the United States, a panel TV for watching MAVTV and News 12 Long Island, heating for the cold months, and a checker-pattern floor.

Cynthia Raven Chevy Garage

Meanwhile, Cynthia Raven of Levittown needed a garage to keep her 1957 Chevy 3500 — which had been garaged by its previous owner in California — from rusting away from exposure to the Long Island winters. Thus, she added a three-car garage to her home, not only to protect her investment, but also to bring in her daily driver (a Ford) if necessary.

“Once I got into pickup trucks, I just kind of liked them,” Raven said. “So [the Chevy’s] never been in the snow. It’s hardly ever been in the rain. I was like, ‘I’m never going to get another that’s in as good shape as this one.’”

Raven also has posters, prints, and other memorabilia around the walls from two decades of collecting at the various car shows she’s attended, making her garage “a good hangout spot” for her, her dog, and whomever else may be around.
