Check Out this Off-road-ready Silverado PreRunner

Wing’s World YouTubers provide a deeper look into how a regular Silverado was transformed into an off-road-ready PreRunner truck.

Jake and Christian Wing are two brothers in Southern California that feature unique and solid off-road builds for trucks. When they’re not showcasing other off-road trucks that people pour their blood, sweat, tears and a lot of money into, they keep busy building off-road trucks, too. This time, Jake stumbled upon a man by the name of Alex Curry who took a bone stock 2010 Silverado and transformed it into something that would make a Ford F-150 Raptor quake in its boots. From the suspension set up to the wide rear end, it’s a truck that gets more attractive the longer you stare at it.

If the first thing you thought when you saw the thumbnail was that it was inspired by a baja truck, you’d be absolutely right. Curry says that when he first bought it, it was completely stock. Down to the 20 inch wheels. After saving up the money, the first thing he did was darken the window, did some basic suspension work, and updated the wheels and tires. Replacing the 20 inch wheels were 15 inch bead locker wheels, that were then complimented by BFGoodrich 40 inch off-road tires. From the get-go, Curry knew he’d transform the truck into a trophy/baja beast of a truck. He completed the exterior aesthetic with Hella lights fitted to a bumper he’d fabricated himself. On said bumper, Curry added quick disconnects just in case he had to remove it.

Soon after, long travel McNeil front and rear custom suspension, skid plates, and coil overs all around were added to the recipe. As soon as the suspension and undercarriage were ready, Curry updated the engine. The engine options for a 2010 Silverado range from a 4.3 liter V6 to a 6.8 liter V8 — but that wasn’t enough for Curry. Instead, he wisely chose to fit the PreRunner build with a LS2 V8. Though, he did mention that he had it stroked out to 408 cubic inches to give his truck an extra edge. To handle the extra power to the updated wheels and tires, Curry swapped the regular rear diff with a 14 bolt rear end from a dually truck. Then to make sure the whole thing can stop on a dime while on the trail, he fitted four piston brake calipers on all four disc brakes. Interestingly, with all the lights on top and in front of the truck, he did have to update the alternator and added gauges.

Speaking of gauges, it wasn’t just the outside of the truck that received an upgrade. A lot of the interior of the Silverado was stripped to make room for the intense roll cage Curry had added. On the dash and center console, were so many gauges and switches for all the extras it looked as though he was sitting in the cock pit of a small airplane. Additionally, Curry switched out the stock shifter for what he calls a “hoon handler” shifter. The driver’s seat, passenger’s seat and both rear seats were replaced with racing seats with racing spec’d straps and belts. When there aren’t passengers strapped into the racing seats, it’s tools or a cooler. He would keep them in the trunk if it weren’t for the two full spares fitted onto it, or the spare drive shaft he has stuffed underneath them.

After going over the numbers and speaking in truck lingo, the two enthusiasts took to the trail. For the last half of the video, it was just the glorious howl of the monstrous LS2 V8 with a view out of the passenger seat into the desert. To end the video, Wing further complimented the truck by filming the truck roaring past him and doing a few spectacular jumps — showcasing the many benefits of long travel suspension.
