Chevrolet Pulls the Heartstrings in Holiday Short Film

Widower receives the best gift of all when his late wife’s Chevrolet Impala is restored with help from their daughter in new short.
Chevrolet and the holidays. A combo as perfect as apple pie and, well, Chevrolet. Might have something to do with the heartbeat of America running under the surface. You can just see a classic two-tone Chevy truck with a Christmas tree in the bed, trundling down snow-covered roads to bring joy to one and all. Maybe even see Santa in a red Corvette at the Main Street Christmas parade.
Of course, the holidays can also be a somber time, the looming cold of winter hanging heavy upon the heart. Perhaps, though, there is a potential spark for joy under those gray skies. That’s what Chevrolet recently revealed with a new four-minute short film, “Holiday Ride.” According to Ad Age, this one hits hard in so many ways.

Created with ad agency Commonwealth/McCann, “Holiday Ride” brings together a trio of heavy hitters for this story of heartbreak and remembrance: The King’s Speech director Tom Hooper, Life of Pi cinematographer Claudio Miranda, and Emma score composer Rachel Portman.
The first scenes of the short focus on the unnamed widower, who visits his late wife’s Chevrolet Impala convertible every Christmas. The Impala’s seen better days, just as he has. Right away, the deep grief fills every viewer’s heart, aided beautifully by Portman’s score.

Realizing how heavy her father’s grief has been for the family, the daughter hatches a plan with the town mechanic and a few volunteers to restore the Impala to its former glory. After a careful extraction from the old barn, she and the rest of the crew go to work on the restoration, getting it ready in time for her father’s next holiday visit.

Seeing the revived Impala, the widower can finally let go of the grief holding him down for so long. Now, with his daughter and dog, he can welcome the sun and all of the warm memories he shared with his wife.
If this film by Chevrolet doesn’t leave you a crying wreck, you’ve got a tougher shell than most of us.
