‘Chevy Beast’ Brings Silverado Savagery to SEMA 2021

The Chevy Beast

‘Chevy Beast’ might be the most extreme concept from Chevy this year, but there are other rigs sure to get your juices flowing.

That thing is a beast! The Chevy Beast to be exact. The Chevy Beast concept is a four-passenger off-roader that’s based on a modified Silverado chassis. It wears a customized pickup body and is powered by a Chevrolet Performance LT4 650-horsepower supercharged crate engine.

“The Chevy Beast concept takes the popularity of high-performance off-road trucks to the next level,” said Jim Campbell, GM U.S. vice president of Performance and Motorsports. “It’s a vision for a new dimension of Chevrolet Performance capability from a brand that’s been pioneering performance and supporting customer personalization for more than 50 years.”

Even though the Chevy Beast would be reason enough to get excited about Chevy at SEMA, there is a lot more. Chevy is bringing seven additional customized trucks and SUVs to SEMA 2021. These vehicles ae based off the latest Chevy production models. They are customized in a way that highlights the performance and personalization that Chevy offers. Let’s take a closer look.

This is the headline of the show without a doubt. This is a high-speed desert running truck that looks like it just drove off the set of a Mad Max movie. “Designers and engineers started with the chassis of a Silverado short-bed model and modified it for high-speed desert running. The frame was shortened and a custom-designed, 4130 chromoly tubular safety structure was integrated while the modified chassis was wrapped with a custom, lightweight body.”’

That high-speed capability is derived from a Chevrolet Performance LT4 crate engine.  That is the 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 that’s rated at 650 horsepower. It’s backed by a 10L90 10-speed automatic transmission that sends torque to a two-speed transfer case and distributes it to 37-inch-tall off-road tires mounted on 20-inch beadlock wheels. The concept also includes the Chevrolet Performance Big Brake Upgrade System.

Inside you will find four Recaro seats with four-point harnesses to keep occupants in place. There are also a pair of 7-inch-diagonal LCD screens that monitor vehicle functions and performance data, including pitch and roll during off-road driving scenarios. But seriously, just look at this thing. How could you not want a truck like this? This will be not just a highlight for Chevy but a highlight for the whole SEMA show.

2022 Silverado High Country Midnight Concept

If you like the blacked out look, then this truck is for you. Blacked out grille, black badging and black 22-inch wheels are some of the exterior highlights. There is more black out back with black exhaust bezels from Chevrolet Performance. “There’s also a power-operated tonneau cover, and a Multi-Flex Tailgate Audio System by KICKER.” And for a splash of color look for the Brembo front brake kit with red, six-piston calipers.

2022 Colorado ZR2 Extreme Off-Road

The 2022 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Extreme Off-Road truck is chock full of factory off-road racing parts. The standard 3.6L V6 with 308 horsepower and 275 lb.-ft. of torque provides the power. However, the off-road racing bits include front and rear jounce shocks, long-travel shock kits, long-travel leaf springs, an anti-wrap link system and more. High-speed desert running or rock crawling can easily be done with this extreme truck.

2022 Colorado Z71 Off-Road Performance Edition

This truck has the same serious blacked out look as the Silverado High Country Midnight Concept. But this is a slightly smaller version. But with the Colorado Z71 Trail Boss Package featuring the Chevrolet Performance 1-inch front leveling kit, underbody skid plates, and Red recovery hooks, this truck can take care of business.

We are still not done. Chevy is bringing a 2022 Tahoe Z71 Overlanding concept. This beast will ride on 33-inch tires mounted on 18-inch beadlock wheels. There is a lifted suspension and a AirDesign fender flares. There is also a cooler and 55-inch rooftop tent. The 2021 Suburban Street concept is a subtle and stylish build that features 24-inch custom-cut, polished billet aluminum wheels. Also on hand will be the debut of the first ever Silverado ZR2.

The Chevy Beast might be the main attraction, but Chevy is going to be showing off a solid lineup of trucks and SUVs that are not to be missed.
