Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 is a ‘Perfectly-Sized’ Off-Roader

New Chevy truck fills a massive void in company’s lineup as a true off-roader that can handle any terrain while being fun to drive, says The Drive.

Chevrolet’s lineup is filled with a plethora of choices for specific driving situations. Need a large, luxurious SUV? There’s the Chevrolet Suburban. For individuals looking for a high-performance sports car, there’s the Corvette. And when American Muscle is needed, the Camaro answers the call. But the automaker’s lineup has always been missing a capable off-roader, until now.

The Drive got to spend a substantial amount of time with a 2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 and found the pickup truck to be a capable off-roader in a perfectly-sized package. “With the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, the fear of having to choose between size and off-road capability is seemingly wiped out,” says The Drive. With the new ZR2, drivers don’t have to choose between size and off-roading capability. And despite the truck’s compact size, it’s still extremely capable. “But the smaller footprint of the Colorado ZR2 does not make it any less off-road capable than the Raptor.”

To help the ZR2 conquer any type of terrain, the truck is packed to the gills with tech, like its Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve (DSSV) suspension from Multimatic. “This advanced multi-chamber suspension system quickly adapts to varying terrain conditions for optimal performance,” says The Drive. Even on the road, the system puts the ZR2 into a league of its own.

Despite being an off-roading monster, the ZR2 is a refined pickup. “Whether rocking the 2.8-liter Duramax diesel or the 3.6-liter V-6, the cabin was always quiet and void of rattles,” says the outlet. “Thanks to sound-deadening materials…the Colorado ZR2 only reminds you that it’s off-road-ready when you see the slight bulge in the hood or the locking differential switches on the center console.”

With its off-roading prowess, high-tech features, and dual personality, the ZR2 is a proper off-roader that we’ve all been waiting for. “The Colorado ZR2 is an amazing engineering accomplishment for Chevrolet and a true pleasure to drive,” says The Drive. “Long story short, the Colorado ZR2 is the happy medium off-road truck buyers were craving — without a sense of compromise.”
