Custom Chevy LUV ‘Chrominator’ Is Low-ridin’ Legend

Chevy LUV

With miles of chrome inside and out, this incredible Chevy LUV perfectly exemplifies the spirit of low riders.

When it first debuted on the scene in 1972, the Chevy LUV was little more than a quick, badge engineered answer to the impending gas crisis. But the little pickup proved quite popular, eventually giving way to its rather famous successor, the S-10. Today, the Chevy LUV is still a fan favorite among the low riding/hot rod crowd. But you’ll be hard pressed to find one cooler than this ’75, which is otherwise known as the “Chrominator.”

We spotted the appropriately named pickup at the Mecum Auctions site, where it stands out for more reasons than we can possibly count. For starters, let’s talk about the little truck’s nickname origin. Clearly, you can’t miss the miles of chrome adoring the outside. Bumpers, mirrors, trim, wheels, you name it. But if you crawl underneath, you’ll also find that nearly all the chassis components are also chrome plated.

Of course, you wouldn’t go to all that trouble if you couldn’t show it off. Thus, the bed is hydraulically powered so you can lift it up and show off those shiny undersides. Doing so also reveals some killer hidden graphics painted on the inside of the bed, which reveal this pickup’s low riding roots.

Throw in a highly detailed engine bay and blazing yellow/black interior, and you’ve got a truck worthy of its rich heritage. In the low rider world, it’s all about showing off. And with a pickup this extreme, that’s inherently easy to do.  You just might want to invest in a case or two of chrome polish!
