Dilbert Thinks It’s Impossible to Buy a Chevy Truck

Scott Adams is the genius behind the legendary Dilbert cartoon, and it turns out he’s also a bit of a Chevy man, or at least trying to be. Adams has been on a quest to buy a very specific truck, but the process has turned out to be a total clusterf*ck…

A recent entry on his personal blog titled, “How Not to Buy a Chevy Truck,“Adams talks about his quest to buy a Chevy truck for various recreational purposes which he does not make public. Still, it’s most likely the typical fishing, towing, or camping, as I don’t see as him as storm-chaser or hardcore off-roader type of guy, but who knows.

I first started reading his well-versed and very peaceful rant (very Dilbert-like) and first thought it was the typical case of throwing a fit because he didn’t find the truck of his dreams on his first try, or because a douchy sales guy did him wrong. I was wrong. This was far from a snobby rant and more of a cry for help. A cry that I hope is read by the handful of General Motors PR reps I will most likely forward his entry to. Adams has a real problem, a problem that is shared by many people with less exposure, and people that either give up and buy the truck they don’t want to buy, or say “screw it” and buy a Ford.

Dilbert’s figurative Dad explains that not only does Chevrolet offer way too many options, but that they also don’t have a fool-proof way of locating a truck based on his exact preferences (even though the website said they did). As it’s expected, the dealership route has been filled with “you don’t need this, you need that,” and many “buy this truck on my lot instead of ordering one because it’s a better deal.” All which brings another problem to the surface, people don’t buy the truck they need or want, they buy the truck they’re sold. The truck the consumer is made to believe they need, and after hours of haggling, customers finally give in and sign a paper just to go home.

Thanks to Scott Adams for reminding us about just how much of a nightmare it can be to buy a truck. I highly encourage you to go read his blog and at least wish the guy some luck.
