Classic Chevys

Senseless tragedy reminds us why boozing and driving is an idiotic idea.

For whatever reason, no matter how many times we’re subjected to tragedy, lots of folks continue to drive while under the influence of alcohol. Everyone knows that getting behind the wheel after knocking back some drinks is a terrible idea, but that doesn’t stop people from doing it. And this latest incident involving a pair of classic Chevys is heartbreaking in more ways than one.

According to Street Rod Life, a 31-year old Pennsylvania man decided to take a ride in his Jeep Wrangler after consuming some alcohol. Making matters worse, he did so with an 8-year old child in the car with him. The bonehead proceeded to drive down Route 53 on a sunny evening before barreling into a black 1963 Corvette. He continued, unfazed, and proceeded to hit a 1957 Chevy head on. The two classic Chevys and their occupants had just left a local car show.

Thankfully, the 8-year old passenger in the Jeep somehow escaped with only minor injuries. The driver of the ’57 and the occupants of the Corvette suffered serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Tragically, the 70-year old passenger of the ’57 Chevy lost her life in the senseless accident.

Obviously, it’s quite sad to see two classic Chevys meet their demise. But you can’t put a price on human life. And there’s no way to replace the loss suffered by the family of the person who died as a result of one person’s careless actions. So next time you’ve had too many and think about driving, just don’t. Because stories like these are far too common these days.
