Silverado ZR2 Bison

Chevrolet released a teaser video of the new Silverado ZR2 Bison which will be built in collaboration with American Expedition Vehicles.

A Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 was finally made available with the refreshed for 2022 Silverado. We love the ZR2 package on the Colorado so having it on the larger Silverado was exciting indeed. If you are serious about taking your Silverado off-road the ZR2 is the one you want. But if you are VERY serious about taking your Silverado off-road there is a new model coming that you must have. Coming later this summer is the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 Bison. This will likely be the most off-road capable Silverado ever offered from Chevy. This is not the first time that a Chevy truck has gotten the Bison treatment. A couple years ago the Colorado ZR2 Bison was released and quickly became a fan favorite.

Like the Colorado ZR2 Bison, the Silverado ZR2 Bison is the result of a collaboration between Chevy and American Expedition Vehicles (AEV). Details are still scarce on this new model. However, on the Chevrolet YouTube channel a new teaser video was recently dropped. Being just a teaser, we only get shadowy glimpses at what the truck will look like. But we can get a sense of what this package will consist of from the few images we can see.

AEV

AEV started in 1997 and is a supplier of high-quality performance aftermarket parts designed for vehicles to go deep off-road. The current Colorado ZR2 Bison utilizes many of these aftermarket parts. For example, there are oversized HighMark fender flares that help clear the 35-inch off-road tires mounted on Crestone DualSport wheels. There is also additional skid plate protection and rear differential cover. We expect many of these core features to also make it over to the new Silverado ZR2 Bison. Along with plenty of AEV badging.

Teaser

So, what can we see in the actual Silverado ZR2 Bison teaser video? Well, we do see plenty of skid plates and badging which we would expect. We also see a shot of model specific wheels with the AEV center caps. The front grille doesn’t look much different than the regular Silverado ZR2. However, the front bumper does appear to be beefier, or at least has a different finish on it. The video fades with a shot of the rear of the truck. Again, we can’t spot a significant difference here, but it is likely that there is also a tweak to the rear bumper.

Specs

The Silverado ZR2 comes with the 6.2L V8 engine hooked up to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The suspension includes Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers. A Silverado ZR2 also has an enhanced 2-speed transfer case with Terrain Mode. We expect all this to carry over to the Bison. With the Colorado Bison AEV didn’t change much with the already excellent engine and suspension package offered by Chevy. We expect that will be the same here. Perhaps some minor tweaks, but not much more. We have no word on pricing or options yet.

The 30 second teaser video is below for your viewing pleasure. You may not be able to see the full picture yet, but it is certainly enough to whet your appetite. For those that like to push their trucks deep into the wilderness, or just look like they do, this summer is going to be very exciting.
