Girl Power: 1957 Chevy Truck Project Aims to Inspire

All-female group builds 1957 Chevy truck for 2017 SEMA show.

The world of car and truck builders has historically been dominated by males. But at least one person is trying to change that reality and inspire more women to grab a wrench. Bogi Lateiner, owner of Bogi’s Garage, is doing just that with this 1957 Chevy truck project. The truck is being built with one simple rule in mind – no boys allowed.

The all-female build has attracted the help of dozens of women across the country. All of whom are pitching in to make the dream a reality. Lateiner came up with the idea, and started the project back in January. The plan is to have it ready in time for the 2017 SEMA show in Las Vegas.

1957 Chevy TruckHer goal, of course, consists of more than just building a show quality classic Chevy truck. “There’s going to be a lot of high profile builds right along side ours, which is what we want. We want a lot of people to see what we’re doing and what a group of women from all over the world can do,” Lateiner told Fox 10 News.

‘We can tell kids until we’re blue in the face they can be anything they want to be, but until they see someone who looks like them doing it, they don’t really believe it.’

“Use this as a tool for attracting new people to the industry, but also showing real-life faces of women who do this work. We can tell kids until we’re blue in the face they can be anything they want to be, but until they see someone who looks like them doing it, they don’t really believe it.”

So far, the build has inspired at least one young lady. 8-year old Rheyna tagged along with her mother, a welder by the name of Briana Huhn, when she traveled from Minnesota to help with the project. After watching her in action, Rheyna told Fox 10 “I want to be a welder and a tinkerer. I just like watching the sparks and how it feels.”

So even though the truck isn’t completed yet, it looks like it’s already having the desired effect. If you or someone you know would like to chip in on this inspirational truck, there’s still time to volunteer. Check out the truck’s home page for all the info!
