Holy Stingray, Batman! Cool Corvettes Hit the Auction Block
Check out these Corvettes that run the gamut from customs, classics, and the Caped Crusader’s ride.
One major highlight of 2019 for car enthusiasts was the return of the Corvette. Chevy made major waves with the new 2020 C8 ‘Vette. And generated major sales and accolades with the new-gen Corvette’s design and performance. But when it comes to the ultimate American sports car, too much is never enough.
We came across some unique Corvettes that will be going up for auction at Mecum. Mecum has been rescheduling auctions due to Covid-19, but will move forward with other sales with expanded online bidding options. We couldn’t pick just one Corvette, so we put together a handful of cool–and maybe a little crazy–cars.
We’ve Got a Live One Here
Fortunately, the 1989 Corvette Batmobile replica pictured above is on the docket at the Houston auction on December 3-5. Unfortunately we don’t yet have all the deets on this custom ‘Vette. Inspired by the 1989 Batman film starring Michael Keaton, this Batmobile even rocks the “turbine-powered” style featured in the film.
But it is a beautifully executed custom build. From the flawless fabrication to the thoughtful lighting details, this hits the mark. Definitely a Corvette we’d cruise around Gotham City in and “go, go, go with a smile!”
Rod & Roll All Night
This 1985 C4 Corvette owes much to its hot rod inspiration. Dropped, chopped, and boosted, we’d love to know the specs. It definitely was built with a purpose, likely being to blow every car off the road. The custom waves paintwork is kinda cool, adds a nice sense of texture. With classic Corvette performance mixed with a little Dom Toretto; we’ve no doubt this beast lives a quarter-mile at a time.
The Gold Standard
It is hard to imagine a better looking 1964 Corvette. Finished in Saddle Tan Metallic paint, the C2 is a rare find as the color was only offered for a limited time in 1964 and 1964. Housing a 327 engine, this classic makes 300 HP.
Truly, this example shows how the sports car’s strength in a graceful, agile lines. It is impossible not to love the elegance made all the more apparent with a drop top. Inside and out, this retro convertible looks like a time machine brought it straight from the era. A true gem, and a dream car.
Yellow Lead-Better
With a hefty dose of adrenaline, this mighty C2 1967 Corvette is clean and appropriately mean. Sunfire Yellow is a perfect bold color, and especially looks like the bees knees with complementing black on the stinger hood.
Running the original 427 ci L71 V8, it is mated to a 4-speed manual. Making a take-no-prisoners 435 horsepower, we would love to hear this baby go.
We love the crisp lines, as well as all the details that make it flex: alloy wheels, redline tires, sidepipes, pop-up headlights.
Of course, the classic ‘Vette and 457 badging adds an extra dose of period-correct character.
Forest Fire
We are big fans of the C3 Corvettes, aka “the shark generation.” And this 1969 Chevy Corvette is a stunner. Plus, it offers a few rare and unique details.
First, is only 1 of 370 produced with L89 aluminum heads in 1969. Also, it still bears the original factory chalk marks on body of car. The engine has been rebuilt, and it rocks a 427 Tri-Power engine that has 435 horses behind it.
But the Fathom Green really turned our head. We don’t see this color as often as we’d like, but man it looks killer.
Red & Delicious
No list would be complete without the ultimate little red Corvette. And this one is red hot. Produced in 1974, this C3 ‘Vette is pristine. Medium Red exterior with saddle leather interior only adds to its sports car perfection.
With a 350 under the hood, making 220 HP, this might just be the perfect ride to kick off summer. Or autumn. Or Tuesday.
